We want to encourage people who are living in houses too large for their needs to 'downsize' to a smaller property. As well as helping the tenant who moves, we can then offer a larger home to a family who needs it.

Downsizing Brings Rewards

Tenants downsizing their home can receive a grant of £1,500 and help others.

Eildon Housing Association Board approved an annual budget to help tenants who are in larger properties with more bedrooms than they need, to downsize to a smaller property. It also aims to help those who may be affected with the proposed changes to Housing Benefit rules.

Financial Incentives are available for tenants who 'downsize homes' that are larger than they need in order to help make best use of housing stock and reduce waiting lists across the Scottish Borders.

If you would like to move to a smaller property but cannot manage all the removal and associated costs, this grant can help. It is a financial incentive for tenants who 'downsize' from homes that are larger than they need.

We want to encourage people who are living in houses too large for their needs to 'downsize' to a more manageable sized property. As well as helping the tenant who moves, we can then allocate a larger family- sized home to a family who needs it.

If you would like to move to a smaller property but need assistance to deal with the practicalities of moving house, we can also help. For instance on your behalf we can contact: utility suppliers, mail redirection, home insurance or housing benefit if applicable.
