Riverside House

Aims of the service

Riverside House is a sheltered Housing Development that provides accessible housing with additional features and support to enable older people to live independently and enjoy a good quality of life in the community. Situated overlooking the River Tweed and close to the town centre, this development offers older people good quality affordable homes with support to retain independence. It offers a warm, friendly atmosphere and a safe, secure setting suitable for older people.  Housing support is provided by a small staff team based on site. What facilities and services are available?

There are 33 self contained flats on three floors with a lift provided.

  • 4 single person flats
  • 28 one bedroom two person flats
  • 1 two bedroom three person flat

Each flat has its own kitchen, lounge, bath or shower room and gas central heating. 

The following are provided

  • The Co-ordinator leads a small staff team providing support, are available throughout the day Monday - Friday and for a few hours over the weekend
  • Staff are not resident and are not on duty overnight
  • Bordercare 24 hour community alarm
  • Door entry-phone system
  • Communal lounge
  • Communal dining room
  • Communal laundry
  • Shower room with bathing aids
  • Overnight guest room with en-suite facilities are available and may be used for a small charge
  • Maintenance and cleaning of communal areas
  • External window cleaning
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Gas central heating

Tenants have the option, for an additional charge, to take a mid-day meal in the communal dining room if they wish. Special diets can be catered for.  Service is available Monday - Friday

Eildon Care and Support does not offer nursing or personal care to tenants at Riverside House.  Where care is needed, staff will help tenants to access this through the Health Service or social Work. 

Who can apply?

The service is for older people who wish to live in Peebles and would benefit from the housing and support provided.

What is it likely to cost?

Tenants pay rent and service charges to Eildon for their accommodation and related property services.  Eildon Housing's rental policy aims to keep the rent and service charges affordable. 

 Included in the rent are charges for the following services:

  • Heating and hot water in individual flats,
  • Light and power in communal areas only,
  • Window cleaning,
  • Grounds maintenance,
  • Cleaning of communal areas,
  • Communal TV aerial,
  • Lift,
  • Fire detection system,
  • Staff call system,
  • Furniture and equipment in communal areas. 

Approximate inclusive charges for rent and services from April 2010

Accommodation Type Charges per week
Single person, one bedroom  £68.82
Two person, one bedroom £76.59
Three person, two bedroom     £82.23

 

Housing Support Service Charges

The housing support service provided by staff at the development and the Bordercare alarm service are funded by Scottish Borders Council.  Tenants may have to pay a contribution towards the costs of these to Scottish Borders Council (up to £24.35 per week from April 2009) depending on financial circumstances. 

Tenants are responsible for electricity costs within their flats and for Council Tax charges. 

Individuals may be entitled to Housing Benefit, Income Support and other benefits.  Our Financial Inclusion staff will be happy to help if you are concerned about being able to afford the charges.
