Station Avenue and Garden

Aims of the Service

This small housing development provides a supportive environment that offers security and safety and enables residents to realise and develop their potential.

This service aims to assist adults with learning disabilities to enjoy a high quality of life by providing long-term homes with support and care based on the following principles:

  • People with learning disabilities are individuals and their particular needs and wishes should determine the care and support they receive.
  • Irrespective of their level of disability, people have a right to be treated with respect and to be supported in ways that maintain their dignity.
  • People have a right to make decisions and exercise control over their own lives within the limitations of their understanding and ability.

The service is registered with the Care Commission to provide care at home and housing support. It assists tenant living in a small development of 6 houses set in attractive grounds in a quiet area close to the town. The service also provides outreach support for a number of other people who live in the area.

What facilities are there?

  • The accommodation is homely, modern and of a high standard.
  • The houses are all fully self-contained bungalows and accessible for wheelchair users.
  • There are three one bedroom houses; a two bedroom house; a three bedroom house and a four bedroom house.
  • In the shared houses all bedrooms have an en suite w/c and bath or shower.
  • There is a bath with hoist for easy access in the two larger houses.
  • The shared houses have a shared lounge and kitchen/dining room.
  • There is a washing machine and dryer in each house.
  • There is a separate staff base/office on site.

What care and support is provided?

  • Residents are supported to live as independently as possible. Care plans are tailored to meet individual needs and wishes and are regularly reviewed.
  • Trained and experienced members of staff are on duty to meet assessed needs, providing assistance as required in all areas of daily life, including personal care, domestic tasks, social and leisure activities.
  • A staff member sleeps overnight in each of the two larger houses.
  • Meals are provided in the two larger houses and special diets can be catered for.  Residents are encouraged to participate as much as possible.
  • The Outreach Service, working from the staff base at Station Avenue, visits people who live alone or iwth relatives or friends to provide care and support on an individually arranged basis.
