Free ESOL Classes for Adults through SBC and Borders College
Date: 14/10/2011
Scottish Borders Council, in partnership with Borders College, runs a rolling programme of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes across the main towns in the Borders.
To make access to classes easy, there is a single point of contact for all enquiries:
Email: esol@borderscollege.ac.uk
OR
Tel: 08700 505 152
All potential learners complete a registration form (translations available) and will be invited to an initial assessment session in their nearest town. Once their level of English has been assessed they will be invited to join the nearest class. There may be a delay whilst enough learners are gathered to establish a group in the nearest town. This process is explained in the leaflets downloadable below.
There are also free classes with a creche available for parents/grandparents/ carers in Hawick (Burnfoot Community School) and Galashiels (Langlee Primary School). These groups aim to promote integration of families and any ESOl learners with childcare responsibilities who can attend either group is welcome.
The Scottish Borders Partnership group which plans ESOL provision continues to seek ways to reach small numbers of adults who find it difficult to attend classes. If you are aware of anyone in this situation or have any suggestions for ways to engage these individuals please get in touch.
