Eildon Housing Opens Their Latest Development at Yarrowford, Selkirk
Date: 12/07/2010
Eildon Housing Association opened its latest development in the rural village of Yarrowford on Monday 12 July 2010. The £1.2 million development consists of 8 homes, three 4 bedroom houses and five 3 bedroom houses which will provide affordable general needs housing for families.
The scheme was opened by Alex Neil MSP the Minister for Housing and Communities during his visit to the Scottish Borders.
The site is one of a number transferred from Scottish Borders Council in March 2005 and is supported by a Grant of £698,000 from the Scottish Government. The design incorporates a number of features to help reduce energy consumption including, double glazing, high levels of insulation, with all properties meeting the SBC requirement for a reduction in CO levels of 15% which is achieved by the use of renewable technology heat pumps. Elements of the house frames and external cladding utilises locally sourced timber. Each house has open front gardens and enclosed rear gardens with communal parking.
Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil said:
"Providing more affordable homes for people in Scotland is a top priority for the Scottish Government.
We've made available nearly £700,000 - more than half of the funding for this development - to help build these eight new homes in Yarrowford.
Over the last three years the Scottish Government has injected nearly £20 million into delivering low-cost housing in the Borders and I also recently announced that the Borders will receive an additional £680,000 this year".
Nile Istephan, Chief Executive of Eildon commented:
"Eildon is proud to be celebrating the opening of this sustainable affordable housing development at Yarrowford. Opportunities to provide much needed affordable housing in the smaller settlements in the Borders only arise once in a generation which is why we are so pleased to have worked with Scottish Borders Council, Scottish Government and the construction team to create those quality homes".
