Eildon provides high visibility bibs for Border youngsters

Youngsters in primary schools across the Scottish Borders will be highly visible when they go out walking this winter thanks to a supply of new high visibility bibs from the Eildon Group.

Earlier this year Eildon's Chief Executive, Peter Lee, offered to sponsor high visibility bibs for primary schools across the Borders as a means of supporting local community involvement.  Scottish Borders Council's (SBC) Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Glenn Rodger, welcomed the proposal as it would complete the supply of vests schools already have from SBC's Safer Routes to Schools team to ensure they have enough for all pupils when they go on visits outside schools.

Executive Member of Education Councillor, Catriona Bhatia, said: "The safety of our pupils in all our schools in the Borders is our priority. This extra boost will further contribute to the great work of our Safer Routes to Schools team who are constantly putting measures in place to ensure our children are safe when walking and travelling to school. With the winter drawing near, this extra supply will ensure schools have peace of mind when it comes to any school outings and trips over the coming months."

Eildon Chairman, Heather Cuckow, added: "The Eildon Group welcomes the opportunity to support local communities and recognises that by supplying the extra 1300 high visibility jackets needed for our primary school children in the Borders, we can improve childrens' safety in an important but low key manner."

Schools were informed of the sponsorship and submitted the numbers and size of bibs they require to ensure they had enough for all pupils. All the schools who requested bibs received them before the October break.
