Aims of the service
Eildon Housing Association provides housing and services
to assist older people to live independently and with dignity
in their own homes as part of their local communities.
Current tenants of the Association may benefit from adaptations
to avoid the need to move home, and the Tenancy
Support service may also be of assistance. Where present housing
is unsuitable the Association aims to offer re-housing options
that meet people's needs.
Provision for older people includes
high quality amenity housing in towns and villages throughout
the Borders, through sheltered and very sheltered housing and residential
care for people with severe dementia.
Who can apply?
Applications are welcome
from anyone who wants to live in the Scottish Borders. Eligibility
will be judged initially on the individual's need for the particular
provision e.g. someone who uses a wheelchair will be given priority
for a flat that has been designed for a wheelchair user. A needs
based system of allocation is used and for most properties applications
should be made using the Association's standard housing application
form.
For our care home for people with dementia
a Community Care Assessment will be required so all applications
go through Scottish Borders Council - Social Work.
What services are being offered?
Eildon has a large stock
of properties for rent in communities throughout the region specifically designated for older people.
These are self-contained, fully independent properties with easy
access where full tenancy rights can be enjoyed. Some properties have been
designed for wheelchair users. Many tenants live fully independently,
but the Association may be able to provide Housing Support if required.
Some tenants receive care and support packages through Scottish Borders Council - Social Work or the Health Service.
Eildon offers sheltered housing for older people in Hawick
and Peebles. Here tenants
have the independence of their own self-contained accommodation
with support from staff when on duty and through the Bordercare
community alarm system at all other times.
Very sheltered housing is like sheltered housing but on a smaller
scale and with a higher level of support and additional facilities.
Eildon has developments in Galashiels,
Melrose and Hawick.
Our residential care home
in Tweedbank provides 24-hour care for older people with dementia.
How much will it cost?
Costs vary depending on the particular provision.
In ordinary properties, sheltered and very sheltered housing there
will be rent and associated service charges payable to Eildon,
plus a charge levied by Scottish Borders Council for support services
where they are provided.
In our care home the charge covers accommodation and all services
including meals, care and support.
For many people the housing costs can be met from benefits and,
depending on assessed needs and financial circumstances, Scottish
Borders Council may pay support or care costs in part or in full.
