We have moved another step further forward this week in delivering our plans to build 750 much needed new homes across the Scottish Borders. Following the green light from planners, the former Kelso High School site will be converted into 34 Extra Care flats with expected completion for Summer 2022.
Nile Istephan, Eildon’s Chief Executive said “This decision is excellent news for older people in the Borders. The provision of this type of housing enables personalised care and support to be provided within a community setting and allows individuals to participate in all aspects of daily living where they can. This site is one of a number of Extra Care housing developments that we are planning, with Langhaugh in Galashiels already on site to provide another 39 flats. This is so important with the average age of people in the Borders increasing as well as the demand for suitable housing.”
Extra care housing is part of the 10 year vision for the delivery of housing, care and support for older people developed by the council, Eildon and other partners.
Work on the conversion of this site will begin in Spring 2020. A community information event is planned to take place in the Spring of next year, so watch out for more details to follow on this.
