I’m Aisha and as a Senior Support Worker with Eildon I work closely with the other seniors to manage the Support Workers to ensure we provide care and support in a person-centred manner, ensuring positive outcomes for our tenants. We also monitor the essential systems we have within the building e.g., fire prevention, emergency call system, and ensure all necessary checks and repairs are carried out as.
I work 25 hours a week and my working pattern varies. I do sometimes work at the weekend and the rotas are planned well in advance.
I supervise the Support Workers’ care practice by working alongside them to provide practical support and advice on how they are doing. At times I deputise for the manager to ensure the smooth management of the building and the service, ensuring tenants are supported to live independently within their own homes and stay CONNECTED to the local community.
I’m Mhairi and I’m a Cook. I love preparing and cooking meals for the tenants. I have an SVQ2 in food preparation, but I would love to learn more about the dietary needs of older people as this will help me to be CREATIVE and develop even more nutritious menus for them. I’ve discussed this in my supervision sessions with our manager, and Eildon are keen to provide opportunities for me to do this.
I supervise the Scheme Assistants and make sure that the kitchen and dining room are clean and safe making eating meals together a pleasant experience for everyone.
Our tenants can invite friends and family into the ‘Hub’ and I make a range of scones and cakes for them to have with their tea and coffee. I can even cater for special events like the Common Riding week, Christmas, and Burns Suppers.
I need to follow Eildon’s Food Safety Management System and to do this I get to use my IT skills, ordering food on-line, completing compliance audits and monitoring expenditure to make sure we stay within budget.
I need to work flexibly so that I can get my kids to school in the morning and make sure my elderly dad is ok in the evenings. The working hours for this post, mid-morning to early evening, make this a perfect job for me!
I’m Cameron and I’m a Support Worker and enjoy working with Eildon, CARING for our tenants.
It is my job to make sure our tenants have a cosy, friendly, and safe place to live. I help them by providing advice, housing support and personal care. I use Eildon’s policies and procedures as well as working within clear guidelines, sharing ideas with other support workers, and taking advice and guidance from my line manager, Aisha, who is one of the Senior Support Workers.
We have regular team meetings and supervision meetings where we discuss the tenants’ care and support plans as well as any learning and development I need and how I can develop my career. I have an SVQ 2, so I can register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), as this is now a requirement for Support Workers, but I want to go on to do an SVQ 3 and Eildon have a great track record of supporting people to do this.
I work full time – 37.5 hours a week, but a lot of my colleagues work part-time – anything from 16 – 30 hours per week. We have a range of shifts – early and late, as well as a dedicated night shift.
As part of their range of non-contractual benefits, Eildon provide a Health Cash Plan which means I can get money refunded on what I’ve spent at the dentist and the optician, that’s fantastic!
I’m Hamish, a Scheme Assistant and Mhairi, the cook, is my line manager. Together with our team members we are COMMITTED to keeping our buildings clean and safe for our tenants.
Mhairi is very supportive, and we have regular 121s to make sure that we order supplies on time and never run out of essentials. We also talk about how we can use the Hub with the people in our local area to keep our tenants CONNECTED with the community.
I have mandatory health and safety training to keep up to date with and it is so easy to do with Eildon’s on-line Learning Management System.
Eildon are a Living Wage employer so I can be sure that what I earn will always be above this level and this has helped me to buy my own flat. Through Eildon’s Cycle to Work Scheme I’ve also been able to buy an electric bicycle which gets me to work and helps the environment too!
