Scottish Housing Day 2026

In celebration of Scottish Housing Day 16 September 2026 with the theme of healthy homes, healthy futures, we spoke to one of our tenants who described exactly why a move to an Eildon home altered her life for the better.

Moving to our new home has changed my life for the better. Before the move, I felt very isolated and rarely saw anyone because we lived in a rural area and I am unable to drive. This was having a negative impact on both my health and wellbeing. My husband also found it increasingly difficult to manage the stairs, particularly as the bathroom was located downstairs. I was struggling to get in and out of the bath, which had an overhead shower, and I was becoming concerned about the risk of slipping or falling. Since moving to our ground floor flat with a level-access shower, day-to-day life has become much easier. The flat is far more accessible and manageable, and we feel much safer and more comfortable in our home.”

“I can now get out for walks, use the bus to visit nearby towns, and regularly chat with my neighbours. Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming, which has helped me feel part of the community. I also go swimming regularly, which has improved my fitness and helped me stay active. Another significant change is that I am now able to work three days a week, something I wasn’t able to do before, and my workplace is only 10 minutes away. Overall, I feel healthier, more independent, and far less isolated. Having a home that meets our needs has made a huge difference to both my physical and mental wellbeing.”
