Borders care & repair
The Borders Care and Repair Service provides an adaptation service and handyperson service. You don’t need to be an Eildon tenant to subscribe to this service.
Overview
To access this service you need to be:
– a homeowner 60 years of age and over
– a tenant 60 years of age and over
– a disabled homeowner or tenant of any age
The Borders Care and Repair service can help adapt and repair your home, and make it:
– more comfortable
– safer and more secure
– better suited for your needs
The service is provided by us together with Scottish Borders Council. Our team is based in Selkirk, and visits people in their homes throughout the Borders. All work is carried out by reliable tradesmen from our approved list of contractors.
Our team can advise on improvements to your home to meet a physical need. We can assist with major adaptations to your home such as:
- (Move to HPS) level access showers
- stairlifts
- access ramps
We can provide you with advice on funding that may be available to help with your adaptation, arrange works through reputable contractors and oversee the process from start to finish
You can self-refer to our adaptation service, provided you have had a full Occupational Therapy assessment from the Social Work Department in the past.
Please call us on 01750 724 895 or email us to find out if we can help.
We can carry out handyperson jobs including:
- fitting locks and smoke alarms
- replacing tap washers and unblocking sinks
- fitting light bulbs and hanging curtain poles
- fitting grab rails or handrails
As part of the handyperson service, we can also provide advice on home improvements, and arrange and supervise work to be done. Work may include:
- roof repairs
- damp works
- electrical rewiring
- window replacement
You can self-refer to our handyperson service. Your first visit is free of charge. After that, it costs £47 a year to subscribe. There is no limit to the number of visits.
